Silent Hill: Shattered Memories shares its twisting plot with the original Silent Hill game. The game opens to the scene following a car accident where the central character, Harry Mason, wakes to find his daughter Cheryl missing. Harry sets out into the snowy streets of the haunted town of Silent Hill to find her, and that’s where his living nightmare begins as he not only discovers the truth about his daughter, but also about himself.
Designed to make full use of the Wii’s unique controllers, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories uses the Wii Remote as a torch and cell phone as Mason looks for clues. The torch is vital for scouring the darkened, abandoned buildings of Silent Hill, while the phone acts as a secondary user interface, allowing the player to access maps via its GPS capabilities and take pictures of interesting elements. Likewise, the Wii Remote also can be used to pick up, examine and manipulate items to solve puzzles along the journey. Such technology was not available when the original Silent Hill was released in 1999, and its inclusion showcases Konami’s determination to enhance the playing experience with new, available technology.

Horror games have never been so scary; even though Silent Hill 2 was released in late 2001, it is still one of the best physiological horrors known to the gaming world. Developed by Konami and made originally for the PS2, Silent Hill 2 was the first true, in depth horror game that left you feeling alone. The game doesn’t have huge boss fights that would leave you hammering the controller until it was a pile of dust in your hand, it would leave you to run around on your own accord. This might not sound like an effective way of engrossing you into the game, but it really does. The ‘monsters’ in the game seem too busy attacking each other, most of the time, to even care you exist. This puts you in a solid state of being, well and truly, alone.
