Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City for PS3 actually takes place during Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, where the people have been turned into zombies following an outbreak of the T virus, which was a biological weapon that was created by the Umbrella Corporation. In Raccoon City, you have the choice of being an officer with the Umbrella Security Service (USS), or with the United States Special Operations Force.
Members of the USS are employed to destroy the evidence of Umbrella's activities, including any survivors of the outbreak. Conversely, the Special Operations team is employed to expose the actions of the Umbrella Corporation. There are 12 characters available for game play, six on either side. On the USS team, you have Vector, recon expert; Beltway, explosives expert; Bertha, the medic; Spectre, the sharpshooter; Four Eyes, the scientist that can program bioorganic weapons; and Lupo, team leader.
On the US Special Ops team, you have Willow, recon expert; Dee-Ay, team leader; Tweed, demolitions expert; Harley, the medic; Shona, field scientist; and Party Girl, the sniper. Along with single player mode, the game provides the opportunity for four player cooperative game play, pitting the USS against the US Special Operations Task Force.
The zombies can attack in a variety of ways, as you can fight with the zombies, shaking your analogue stick to avoid infection. If you are unsuccessful, you will then be invisible to other zombies for a short time while you are infected before your death the game. If you are bitten and run out of time after you have become infected, you will lose control of your character and attack your former teammates until you are shot in the head, which allows you to come back to life. In addition to zombies, there are other enemies within the game, including bioorganic weapons from Hunters, Lickers and Tyrants, with the capacity to control them in specific circumstances.
