PS3 Platinum Games

Review

The Platinum titles are a budget range of PS3 games. They are sold cheaply across the PAL regions, which includes Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and India. They can be recognised due to their silver colored band, which goes across the game's casing at the front. Pre 2010 some sport the old PS3 style logo.

In order for a Sony PlayStation 3 game to become a platinum game, it needs to have sold more than 400, 000 editions throughout the world in the first year of sale. This extends to PAL regions. However, in other regions, for example Japan or the USA, another amount may apply. PS3 platinum titles with a similar price range are known as the Greatest Hits within North America and The Best in Japan. The price tends to be reduced to approximately half of the original price. This means that space can then be made for new inventory.

Within "PS3 of the shelf games", there are a number of titles which have gone platinum.

PS3 Games Set To Become Platinum In 2011 :

PS1 and PS2 as well as PSP also have their own platinum ranges. However, unlike with PS3 platinum titles, PS2 and PSP releases do not have a particular target that needs to be reached to get to a platinum status. PSP Platinum titles are downloadable from the PlayStation Store PSN.

Downloaded PSN games do not become Platinums. One major point to consider is that platinum PS3 titles have no trophies in general. Wipeout HD is the exception, however the price is equal to a full retail boxed blu-ray. Thus the price of a costly PSN download title could allow for a trophy.
