Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands marks the return of the multiplatform video game developed by Ubisoft, the newest installment in the acclaimed series. It follows the story set by Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and will be available on PSP, Nintendo Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and Microsoft Windows.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands covers the seven year missing storyline between Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. The prince journeys to his brother Malik's kingdom only to find the castle under siege by a massive army. The Prince has to embark on a quest in order to use the ancient power of the Sand in order to save the kingdom from total destruction.

Gameplay is different based on the console being used. In the Xbox 360, PS3, and Windows version, the Prince has the power to rewind time from the beginning of the game, the newest feature being the development of elemental powers. There are four core powers, and then a multitude of minor powers the Prince can purchase from the Djinn Razia. One of the core powers is the abilitiy to freeze water, which means waterfalls are now icy walls that the Prince can climb and access previously unavailable areas. The combat is similar to the one developed in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and the Prince can fight up to fifty foes at once.

In the Wii version, the Prince has three new abilities he can wield. The first is the Sand Ring, which serves as a wall grip so he can climb up walls with no ledges or handholds. Then there is a pillar allowing him higher access, as well as a protection sphere that enables him to avoid getting caught in traps. All three abilities are usable in combat, as well as in navigation and solving puzzles. The Prince's combat makes use of the Wii's motion sensors, where a flick of the remote is a swing of a sword.

Overall, the controls are very similar to those of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, but have been improved, so that everything is familiar but better. Though the combat is similar, the Prince is unable to block attacks, only dodge. However, the ability to call down tornadoes to suck up foes makes up for this lack.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands seems to be more than worthy of being the next installment of the Prince of Persia series. With spot on platforming and a host of new abilities, this game is a welcome addition to any gamer's repertoire. by Lauren
