Review
The next installment of the infamous story of Samus of the Metroid video game is set to be released in summer 2010. Featuring 2D and 3D gameplay in both third and first person, Metroid: Other M promises to delve even deeper into the world of the infamous Samus Aran.
Metroid: Other M takes places between Super M and Metroid Fusion, opening with the spectacular conclusion of the battle with Mother Brain. Samus finds herself on a Galactic Federation ship, and soon rallies forward, responding to a distress call from a “Bottle Ship” floating idle in space. Upon earning the trust of a group of GF soldiers, Samus and the others begin their mission, exploring the space craft in order discover the newest threat they're up against.
The gameplay is controlled by holding the Wii remote horizantally. Following the previous games in the Metroid series, the majority of the game takes place in third person perspective, where the player can have Samus jump, dodge, and shoot her arm cannon at tentacled aliens. However, once the Wii remote is pointed vertically toward the sensor, the game changes into first person view, allowing Samus to target foes and fire missiles. The game is designed to switch between these modes in order to battle effectively. First person also allows the player to explore the ship and discover hidden items and passageways.
Metroid: Other M has shown great promise, with intriguing gameplay and stunning visuals. Upon premiere, fans of the Metroid series will have to judge for themselves if Samus' legacy has been properly honored. by Lauren
