Cast your mind’s back to October 2008, a now heroic character was just emerging... his name... Sackboy! The game is LittleBigPlanet and it gave us an excellent combo of old and new. The old taken from a tried and tested 2D plat former and the new gifted to us in the way of almost unlimited creational possibilities. Ok, so level creators and world builders have been around for some time now, but this was different. Not only could you design a ‘perfect world’ but you could design a multitude of gadgets and gizmos, all of which your Sackboy (also customized to perfection, mine looking very similar to a Mr.T Ghostbuster if you can imagine such a thing?) could interact with. Things could be switched on with the touch of a button, turned off, speeded up, slowed down. You could fire rockets just by walking past a sensor, and all of this was designed with absolutely everyone in mind... more

From the tutorials to the descriptions everything was made easily accessible to anybody, hardcore gamer or gaming virgin alike. And to top off the cream pie with a juicy cherry, who doesn’t want to be talked through a tutorial, level or cut scene by none other than Stephen Fry?
When it comes to choosing what your Sackperson wears you’ll take longer than your girlfriend to decide. The possibilities are practically endless, with thousands of little accessories from hats to boots, via all sorts of things like frying pans and proton packs; you’ll be ready to ‘Get your glad rags on’ (to use another of Stephen Fry’s phrases). This coupled with the add-on packs downloadable from the PSN (PlayStation Network) the game has a practically unlimited scope.

This leads me onto my final point, the next update. Now I frequently check the PSN for videos, demos, and games and I’m sure that many other people were just as excited as me when they posted the video for the upcoming level pack/update. It showed us something that the whole LittleBigPlanet community has wanted for a long while, WATER! Yes, that’s right, now you can get your little Sackperson ‘gadding about’ (to coin another of Stephen Fry’s terms) under the sea, but be careful, stay underwater for too long without a snorkel and you’ll find yourself back at the previous checkpoint trying again! With new level packs, costume packs and level kits on the way the level of freedom to create just keeps getting bigger, if you’re not a part of it, try it. You won’t be disappointed! by Dan Shipman
