Review
At this point, we are all familiar with these rhythm games, starting with Guitar Hero and evolving into Rock Band. With up to four players able to play guitar, drums, and vocals, it's a party favorite for college campuses everywhere and a great way to while away the hours after work. Now, we have a version that brings it to the kids, so you can start their rock star training early.
The gameplay is not very different than the previous incarnations of this game. It looks, feels, acts, dresses, and gets its groove on just like the other Rock Bands. You play your set, you go on tour, you have thousands of adoring CGI fans. However, Lego Rock Band comes with the Lego personality, not taking itself to seriously and loads of fun. Instead of the usual club to club gigs of Rock Band, the venues are wonderfully fantastical, from haunted houses, castles, even UFOs.
In order to incorporate the young ones, Lego Rock Band has added some kid friendly features. First, the super easy mode that is based on color recognition and doesn't require precision. All 45 tracks are relatively family friendly, like "Accidentally in Love," "Every Little Thing She Does is Magic," and "Kung Fu Fighting." Unfortunately, the set list is much shorter than other versions of the game, but hopefully you love the songs too much to care.
There are some downfalls to the game. The DLC features are limited to PS3 and XBOX 360, so Wii fans are out of luck. So even with Rock Band 2 with the myriad of songs all available for download, you can't access them in Lego Rock Band. What's worse, you can't import the Lego Rock Band songs into Rock Band 2 either. Pretty much a huge letdown.
All in all, Lego Rock Band isn't entirely original or add anything to the Rock Band legacy, but it's adorable, fun to play, and great for kids. And what kid doesn't want to be a rock star? by Lauren
