   With the infected ranks steadily growing, the Left 4 Dead 2 story has moved off to infect the southern parts of the US; and the situation is not looking any better than it did. There are five new campaign scenarios in Left 4 Dead 2 all with a southern feel, with new threats in the form of new kinds of infected, one being the charger, an infected with massive arms, who tries to ram you down and pound you to bits, helpfully, it can scatter it’s fellow common infected while trying to get at you, there is also the spitter, who, well… spits… noxious acid! There are also new level specific infected now, which Valve prefer to call, “common-uncommon infected” like the mud-men of the swamps who are like proper savage animals and riot police infected, who don riot gear and can resist far more shots than a normal infected while still charging at you.

   The levels in Left 4 Dead 2 are a bit easier than the first, but with the new breed of infected and extra side missions you’ll be kept engaged for longer. And just like the first, the A.I. Director is also featured in the sequel, it’s basically an A.I. that simulates events, scenes and difficulties for the player all depending on your skill level and play style, this time it has been upgraded to 2.0, now you would think that this is a good thing on hearing it, but with the new scenarios you are put against, you’d begin to think the A.I. is working for the infected. There are two new modes in the game, realism mode, where headshots are of utmost importance as is the only true was to kill a zombie (in the movies) and scavenge mode, which has you filling generators with fuel before the given time runs out, while the opposing team tries to take you down as they have been infected.

   The gameplay still consists of you blatantly running and gunning down anything that moves, friend or foe, well if friends are running at you, they’ve probably been turned foe right? Just like the first, there is an incredible array of weapons to choose from, with some new of the old classics now featuring new models to play with, there is also now the option to take up melee weapons, which could range from frying pans to samurai swords, the mix is a great change, as you might sometimes feel brave enough to do a chainsaw massacre on a whole horde of the infected, just hope it doesn’t overheat up half way through. There is also the addition of incendiary ammo, which when used will immediately set the zombie alight, letting you save your other ammo more trying tasks, just don’t try using it on the hazmat suit wearing zombies as they resist fire. There is also the inclusion of a defibrillator, which can be used as an on the spot revival kit for downed allies, allowing them to keep the zombie slaying going.

   Sure you’ll have an incredible time clearing up the campaign mode in Left 4 Dead 2, but where the game really shines is in the addictive online play, with the two new game modes added to the original free modes from the first, and the hectic cooperative team-based shooting already established by Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2 is a definite play for fans of zombies, shooters and frying pans. by Zeel Okoye
