Invizimals - Catch Them If You CanDo not be fooled, this isn't a revamped Pokemon. Instead, Invizimals on PSP offers us a strange mixture of Pokemon and Ghostbusters. While you still want to collect all these quirky little critters, it's not through a search of some whimsical fantasy land. You find them by roaming through your own environment, with the attached camera zoning in on the invisible creatures puttering away unbeknownst in your kitchen cabinet. Once captured, with something like a tarot card, you can battle other Invizimals in the game and of course your friends too. That's what friendship is all about. The Invizimals themselves are well designed and come with a staggering variety. They all have unique ways of being captured, like splatting one with your hand ala a flyswatter, or temporarily blinding one with a beam of light. PETA would have a fit. The Invizimals fall into the distinct elemental catagories, Water, Fire, Earth, etc, and combat is real time rather than turn based, so while attacking is obviously necessary, being able to block attacks at the right time is essential. Battles require stamina more than anything. The three basic attacks are as follows: strong, medium, and fast. Remarkably straightforward. After an attack, the Invizimal has to recharge its batteries, so the longer you have to wait, and the more opportunities for your opponent to strike. With successful attacks, you knock out Sparks, which are hoovered up by aiming the camera, and these are your currency for health packs, special attacks, and other such items. When I played Invizimals, for me the best part of the battle system is the capturing part of the gameplay; fights can be played anywhere you can balance the card. Imagine, if you will. You can battle on top of your television, the Invizimals engaged in fierce combat above Simon Cowell's head. Or on your knee under your desk during study hall. Truly, the possibilities are endless. Multi player mode is also a gold mine, allowing much more freedom than the single player can sometimes handle. You can challenge another player to a one-off duel, or set up a long term Invizimal club for extended combat. Also, the barter system is well designed, and you can swap whatever you wish as long as you think the trade is fair. Capitalism wins again. Invizimals is cute and clever, with whole bucketloads of quirk thrown in. If that's not enough to catch you, maybe the fun will. by Lauren Invizimals PSP 3000 bundle: Hunt for PSP Invizimals, and capture them.
