Rockstar Games has officially announced that they will be adding a new PS3 installment to their enormously popular game franchise, Grand Theft Auto. The newest addition, Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS3 is slotted for release later this year.
The setting
GTA 5 takes a departure from the New York City setting of its predecessor. This time around, players will explore the streets of Los Angeles. The game features many of the city's famous landmarks as well as some lesser-known buildings and structures.
The story
The newest version of GTA will follow the characteres in their pursuit of the almighty dollar, with the primary focus being on the city of Los Santos rather than an on an entire state as previous versions have. Because the game takes place in a fictional Los Angeles, the missions will take place around the film industry for which Los Angeles is famous.
Game play
Grand Theft Auto V will feature a multiplayer mode, although the company has not yet released many other details about the format of the game itself. They do say, however, that GTA 5 will be the game's ambitious incarnation yet. The game will likely include the game's typical multiplayer modes, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Race and GTA Race.
It is also speculated that the RockStar will include mini-games for online play, such as poker or golf. In this version, the idea of property ownership has been vastly expanded as compared to GTA IV. Players have the opportunity to buy businesses as well as safehouses in the hopes of generating income and advancing in the game.
Missions
Of course, in Grand Theft Auto the quickest and best way to the top is through missions that are of questionable legality. GTA 5 offers the classic heist mission lines for which the game has come to be known. Heist missions include bank robberies and casino heists.
Platforms
Rumors abound that Grand Theft Auto will be launched for both the Playstation 3 and for the Xbox 360, likely both at the same time. Following that initial launch, it is predicted that Rockstar will release a PC-compatible version and, possibly, a version for one or more hand-held game platforms such as the brand-new Playstation Vita.
Grand Theft Auto 5 promises to bring all of the excitement and drama that the franchise has come to deliver, along with exciting new features, more realistic interactions with NPCs.
