God of War III for Playstation 3 – Back for Vengeance
God of War III is the latest installment in the very popular God of War series, the fifth and final chapter of the current chronological story arc. It has the won the Most Anticipated Game of 2010 at the 2009 Spike Video Game Awards, and gamers the world over are chewing at their nails waiting for March to arrive.
God of War II ended with Kratos, Gaia, and the Titans making their way to Olympus in their quest for its utter destruction. The game demo released at E3 2009 shows epic violence that makes the 300 Spartans seem as if they were knitting jumpers. Kratos wreaks violence through Olympia, tearing through Zeus' skeleton army as if they were tissue paper. One released segment shows a taunting Helios, the Sun God, in his burning chariot. Kratos is not a man known for taking things lying down, Kratos shoots his chariot from the sky, uses the backs of harpies to reach the fallen god, rides a Cyclops to break through Helios' guards, and rips of the Sun God's head with a brutal twist. To further this glory, the head of Helios is an effective flashlight, which can be used to light up secret areas.
The gameplay is expected to be similar to that of the previous installments. There are four confirmed weapons: the trademark Blades of Athena, the Blades of Olympus, a fire bow called Zipper, and a pair of lion crested fist gauntlets called the Cestus. The Cestus have the ability to smash through rock and other hard materials, as well as the range extending chains that are found in the Blades of Athena. Some items kept from God of War II include the Golden Fleece and Icarus' wings.
Kratos, easily the angriest man in mythology, continues to prove himself as the epically violent anti-hero in the latest installment in the God of War series. God of War III continues the brutal legacy in a climax that is sure to secure its place in video game glory. by Lauren
