Review
Being released this summer is the newly renamed Flingsmash for Nintendo Wii, also known as Spansmasher. Developed by the same people who created Yoshi's Island for DS, Flingsmash is a Motionplus-enabled Wii game that stars a flying tangerine.
The premise behind Flingsmash is incredibly simple. Using Motionplus, you swing the Wii remote to knock around a piece of fruit into barriers of breakable blocks. Simple, yet surprisingly addictive. The Smasher, the tangerine, is swiped with the remote into various obstacles and then comes bouncing back the opposite direction. The player can also knock the Smasher multiple times in a row to correct his course, but beware of doing this too often, because waiting a few seconds allows the tangerine to power-up and create more havoc. Another little feature is that the screen constantly scrolls, so you have to stay on your toes.
The levels tend to look like a modified pinball game, and the Smasher can pick up fruit pieces, ala Pac Man, activated power-ups and special modes, such as Fireball. There are also medals that need to be collected in order to move to the next level. Anything less than three and the level is failed.
Flingsmash may not be the next Zelda or Halo, but like Katamari or Rabbids Go Home, sometimes it's the simplest game that prove the most addictive and the most entertaining. It should prove to be a popular release for summer 2010. by Lauren
