Developed by Harmonix, published by MTV Games and released on November 10, 2010 in Europe, Dance Central is a music video game exclusive release on Xbox. It utilizes the Kinect motion peripheral where players perform given dance moves. It is then tracked by Kinect and represented on the screen by one of the eight in-game avatars. Featuring over 650 different dance moves and 90 dance routines, the game offers four modes to the players including ‘Perform It’, ‘Workout Mode’, ‘Dance Battle’ and ‘Break It Down’.
Dance Central gameplay in both single player and multiplayer modes has an objective to complete the featured dance routines to earn high scores. It also tracks the number of calories burned along with the workout time. In multiplayer mode, two or more players compete in a head-to-head dance routine battle and try to win by scoring higher than each other. In ‘Break It Down’ mode, you can also learn more advanced dance moves through a step-by-step process. |
Dance Central offers 32 popular soundtracks included on the game disc. Some of them are ‘Body Movin’ by Beastie Boys, ‘Brick House’ by The Commodores, ‘Bust a Move’ by Young MC, ‘C’mon N’ Ride It’ by Quad City Dj’s and ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’ by Kylie Minogue. You can also download other songs for 240 Microsoft Points via the Xbox Live Marketplace.
It is the first control-free and fully immersive dance video game having speedy and responsive menu screens. It has received a rating of 8/10 from IGN. Dance Central Xbox 360 has no limitations and allows players to wiggle their hips, pump their fists and shake their bodies on thirty two wonderful sound tracks. The best part is that the camera accurately tracks your limbs and their movements, and records them so that you can even view them later. Written on 11 Nov 2010 – by Carter
